June 11, 1944 – March 18, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Terry Eldon Raabis on March 18, 2026.
Terry was born on June 11, 1944, in Eckville Alberta, the third son of Carl and Jean Raabis. Dad loved to tell stories from his youth of time spent trapping, hunting and fishing the area around his home. The stories always included humorous details that would make his face light up and his audience laugh!
After graduating high school, Terry moved to Edmonton to start his education to become an electrician. It was in Edmonton that he met Beverley and they were married on June 12, 1965. After becoming a journeyman electrician, they settled in Red Deer to raise their family. After a short period of time living in Kamloops in the early 90’s, they moved to Calgary where they have resided for the last 30 years.
Terry enjoyed many things in life – from maintaining an immaculate yard, to making oak furniture, to riding his motor bike, to fishing out west, to hunting up north and even knitting mitts (he’d laugh knowing I shared his secret!). He could build, fix or retrofit almost anything given enough time to thoroughly research and source out parts. But most of all, he loved being a master electrician. It was more than a profession for him; it was part of who he was. He enjoyed it so much that he never retired from the profession. He continued to work through his small contracting business (with Beverley as office manager) right up until his passing. He got extreme joy in connecting with his clients and would light up whenever a new job came his way.
Terry will be remembered fondly by family, friends and loved ones for his dedication to his family, his quiet demeanor, considerate nature, unrivaled patience, and of course for his cheerful smile, infectious laugh and unique sense of humor.
Survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverley Raabis and children Jason (Shannon), Teresa (Darren), grandchildren Joel (Harmony), Zoe (Chase) and Jesse, and great grandchildren Seth & James.
As per Dad’s request, there will not be any service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
