October 30, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Venerando “Venny” Basuel of Calgary, Alberta announces his passing on October 30, 2024 at the age of 68 years.
Venny was born in Sinait, Philippines on February 21, 1956. In the Philippines, he worked at Basuel Gardens, tending to beautiful plants and flowers. Venny attended school at Guzman Institute of Technology in Manila, Philippines majoring in Auto Mechanics in 1978. He married the love of his life, Florentina Ibe Basuel on July 14, 1984 in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. In the years following, they had their two daughters, Florence Basuel-Elumir, and Faye Basuel.
He immigrated to Canada on October 24, 1999 with his children, to reunite with his wife, Florentina. Following his immigration to Canada, he worked at Tiger-Sul Industries from 1999 to 2008. Then he worked at Tervita from 2008 until his retirement in 2021. Venny’s favourite thing to do was travelling to new and familiar places with his family, spending time with his grandkids, and exploring exotic wines. Venny enjoyed tending to his garden, landscaping, and paddleboarding on serene waters. His favourite saying was “Mmmhm” (in Ilocano) and was often heard quoting it to warn the kids of their shenanigans.
Venny’s favourite vacation was the time they went to Mexico as a whole family where he enjoyed his time in the swimming pool with his grandsons. Any vacation where he spent time with his grandkids was Venny’s favourite time. Venny enjoyed life to the fullest and was not one to turn down trying something new. From paintballing for his nephew’s bachelor party, to paddleboarding new waters, Venny was always open to exploring what life had to offer.
Venny will be remembered for his generous and kind heart; a great papa to his children, grandkids, nieces, and nephews; the “funcle” who is always up for a good time; and a loyal brother to his siblings, family, and friends.
